Road through the tournament
BetBoom began their IEM Atlanta 2026 campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over B8 before facing Vitality in the upper bracket semi-final. After defeating the world No.1 team today, the CIS squad secure direct qualification to the playoffs and continue building momentum as one of the biggest surprises of the tournament.
Vitality previously opened the event with a comfortable 2-0 victory over BC.Game and now drop to the lower bracket, where they will continue fighting for survival despite remaining one of the tournament favorites.
paiN, meanwhile, continue their excellent recent form after opening Atlanta with a confident 2-0 victory against FaZe. The Brazilian roster now advances directly to playoffs with back-to-back wins over elite opposition.
FUT started the tournament by eliminating NRG before pushing paiN to all three maps today. Despite the loss, the roster remains alive in the lower bracket and still has a chance to recover later in the event.

BetBoom finally take down Vitality
BetBoom entered the series as clear underdogs against the reigning No.1 team in the world, but the CIS roster delivered one of their strongest performances of the season. They opened the match with a confident 13-10 victory on Anubis before Vitality responded on Overpass with a controlled 13-8 win. However, BetBoom completely outplayed Vitality on the decider Nuke, securing a dominant 13-8 victory and closing the upset.
The biggest difference throughout the series was BetBoom’s confidence in mid-round situations. While Vitality usually dominate late-round scenarios with superior coordination, BetBoom repeatedly found crucial opening picks and constantly pressured rotations around ramp and upper sites on Nuke.
Vitality looked unusually uncomfortable during several defensive halves, especially on the decider where apEX and flameZ struggled to stabilize the CT side. Despite another strong performance from ZywOo, the European superteam could not recover after losing momentum early on Nuke.
Magnojez leads the upset
Kirill “Magnojez” Rodnov became the star of the series and one of the main reasons behind BetBoom’s historic victory. The young rifler finished the match with a 1.26 rating while consistently delivering multi-kill rounds on both Anubis and Nuke.
FL4MUS and zorte also played key supporting roles throughout the series, while Boombl4 helped control the tempo with several aggressive mid-round calls that repeatedly caught Vitality off guard.
For Vitality, ZywOo once again remained the best performer with a 1.28 rating, but the rest of the roster struggled to maintain consistency across all three maps.
apEX reacts after Vitality’s upset loss
Following Vitality’s unexpected defeat against BetBoom, Dan “apEX” Madesclaire shared a short but honest reaction on social media, openly admitting that the team underperformed throughout the series. The French IGL praised BetBoom for their performance while acknowledging Vitality’s struggles on the server:

In the second upper-bracket semi-final, paiN defeated FUT 2-1 and secured another impressive playoff qualification at IEM Atlanta 2026.
The Brazilian squad started strongly with a 13-8 victory on Nuke, but FUT answered back on Overpass after a highly aggressive CT-side performance led by dem0n and dziugss. With the series tied 1-1, Dust2 became the deciding battleground — and paiN ultimately proved calmer during the final stages of the map, closing the series with a 13-11 victory.
The matchup remained extremely competitive throughout all three maps, with both teams trading momentum multiple times. FUT repeatedly found success through explosive mid-round entries, but paiN’s experience in late-round situations eventually became the deciding factor.
piriajr shines as paiN reach playoffs
Guilherme “piriajr” Barbosa delivered another highly impactful series for paiN and finished as the top-rated player with a 1.17 rating. snow also played a crucial role in several late-round clutches, while biguzera provided stable anchoring on the defensive sides.
For FUT, both dem0n and dziugss continued showing strong individual form despite the defeat, but the European mix struggled to close several key rounds on the decider map.
VRS impact
The results also brought major changes to the Valve Regional Standings:
