Valve have released a new Counter-Strike 2 update that significantly impacts Cache gameplay — most notably by removing the popular self-boost to the Shroud position. Alongside this, the developers introduced dozens of map tweaks, audio fixes, and gameplay improvements, already triggering heavy discussion across the community.

Shroud Self-Boost Is No Longer Possible

One of the most impactful changes is the removal of the lamp near Shroud, which previously allowed players to perform a self-boost without a teammate. This effectively changes the micro-meta on A site, as the position was often used for unexpected angles and aggressive control. Additionally, Valve:

  • removed collision from the sign near the door
  • blocked the jump onto the sign entirely
  • left alternative options — boosting via the door or using a run-jump

The community reaction has been mixed. Some players supported the change:

I think it’s for the best, they didn’t mean to make Shroud one of the default positions

Others criticized Valve’s decision:

All they needed to do get rid of the ledge… not the lamp

The update touches nearly every key area of the map:

  • Increased bomb explosion radius
  • Adjusted lighting around the vent area

  • Removed the AC unit above sandbags and repositioned pipes
  • Fixed missing footstep sounds on A site boxes
  • Fixed wall collisions and map geometry issues
  • Adjusted grenade and player visibility across the map

Many of these changes are aimed at reducing visual clutter and improving clarity.

Community Reaction

Cache changes quickly became one of the most discussed topics on Reddit and X. Some players believe Valve are moving in the right direction by removing “free” solo positions that don’t require teamwork.

Others argue that:

  • boosting is still possible through alternative methods
  • the change feels more cosmetic than impactful
  • Valve are once again removing mechanics players have already adapted to

Cache Rewritten: The End of Solo Tricks or a Step Toward True Balance?

This Cache update is more than just a set of fixes — it’s a clear attempt to reshape the map’s micro gameplay, making it less reliant on solo tricks and more focused on teamplay. Whether this is a step toward Cache returning to Active Duty remains unclear. But one thing is certain: Valve continue to actively refine the game, removing mechanics that provide too easy of an advantage.
