Bots Have Flooded CS2 Deathmatch — Community Calls Official Servers “Unplayable”

The Counter-Strike community is once again heavily criticizing Valve over the current state of official Deathmatch servers in CS2. Players on Reddit are reporting massive waves of XP farming bots that have completely taken over DM lobbies, making weekly challenges frustrating and, in some cases, nearly impossible to complete. A large Reddit thread titled “Bots ruining DM” quickly gained traction after one player claimed that “90% of the lobby are bots that insta-headshot you.”

It’s genuinely unplayable. Try doing the weekly challenge with the M249 against these farming bots, the author wrote.

Players Report Massive XP Farming Bot Problem

According to users, the issue is especially noticeable on EU and NA Active Duty Deathmatch servers. Players described several common bot behaviors:

  • automatic movement patterns;
  • instant headshots;
  • strange “scanning” camera movements;
  • identical weapon purchases;
  • leaving servers immediately after reaching XP limits.

Many users believe the problem became worse after XP system changes and the introduction of the Armory Pass. Several comments directly connected bot farms to farming rewards and the CS2 skin economy.

Valve is punishing real players while bots continue farming XP, one Reddit user commented.

Others joked that “seeing a real player in DM now feels weirder than seeing a bot.”

Community Accuses Valve of Ignoring the Issue

A large portion of the thread focused on frustration toward Valve’s anti-cheat efforts. Many players claimed that reports “do absolutely nothing” and that VAC is failing to deal with obvious bot farms.

Some users even suggested Valve has little motivation to solve the problem because of revenue generated through Prime accounts, cases, and the Armory system.

Why care when people keep opening cases? one commenter wrote.

The thread author responded:

Consumers accept slop so companies keep lowering expectations.

At the same time, some players argued that the severity of the issue depends on region and time of day. While certain users reported “completely dead” DM lobbies filled with bots, others claimed they usually encounter only one or two suspicious accounts per match.

Players Are Moving Back to Community Servers

Because of the situation, many users say they have returned to community servers or aim training maps instead of using official Valve Deathmatch servers. Some players believe Valve is effectively “abandoning” official DM while bot farms continue to dominate XP grinding.

The thread also mentioned the old spectator-mode trick previously used to identify bot accounts, though several users stated that modern farming bots no longer disconnect when being spectated. Valve has not officially commented on the latest wave of complaints regarding bots in CS2 Deathmatch.
