The official Retakes mode in Counter-Strike 2 has once again become the target of heavy criticism from the community. On Reddit, players are complaining about the slow pacing, poor side balance, and the lack of features that community retake servers perfected years ago in CS:GO. Many users believe Valve created a slower and worse version of something the community already solved long ago.
Community Wants Retakes to Become Much Faster
The biggest complaint focuses on the pacing of the mode. The author of the popular discussion argues that rounds take too long to end and include too much unnecessary downtime. According to him, the next round should begin almost instantly, while the bomb should already be planted immediately after the round starts. The whole purpose of Retakes is practicing post-plant situations.
Players also criticized the full defuse animation after clutch situations. Many users believe the game should instantly finish the defuse if the CT side has clearly won the round and there is enough time remaining.
Many comments directly state that Valve simply needs to copy what community servers have been doing for years:
In other words, do it exactly like the community maps have been doing for years.

Team Balance Became One of the Biggest Problems
Another major issue is the side system itself. Right now, once players choose CT or T, they remain on that side for the entire match. This immediately caused backlash because community retake servers traditionally rotated players dynamically after every round.
One user called the lack of auto-balance “the dumbest part of the mode,” arguing that T-side often becomes stacked while CT players are left helpless.
The no auto balance is the dumbest shit. 3 Ts farming bots against 0 or 1 human CT all the time.
Other players complained that the spawn system has become too predictable:
After playing a map for like 3 times you can memorize all the CT spawns and generally be able to tell whats coming and from where.

“Valve Don’t Care About These Modes”
Part of the community believes the problem goes far beyond Retakes itself. According to many players, Valve have ignored supporting modes like Deathmatch and Retakes for years. Because of this, community servers remain the only serious option for practice. One frustrated comment summarized the mood very directly:
Valve don’t give a fuck bro there’s no point trying.
Despite the criticism, most players still agree that the idea of an official Retakes mode is good. However, many believe it still cannot compete with the community servers that have remained the primary warmup and post-plant practice environment in Counter-Strike for years.
