HEROIC started their PGL Astana 2026 campaign with a confident 2-0 win over Aurora in the opening Swiss round, taking Nuke 13-8 and Dust2 13-11. Despite Aurora entering as the higher-ranked favorite, HEROIC looked far more prepared throughout the series, consistently disrupting the Turkish squad with aggressive mid-round calls and strong CT-side structure.

HEROIC dominate Nuke and survive late Dust2 comeback

The series began on HEROIC’s map pick, Nuke, where xfl0ud delivered one of his strongest performances in recent months. HEROIC quickly established control on the CT side and repeatedly punished Aurora’s outside executions and upper-site hits. By halftime they already had a comfortable lead, eventually closing the map 13-8.

Dust2 looked far more competitive. Aurora found more impact through XANTARES and Wicadia, while MAJ3R created several openings on the T side. Despite that, HEROIC remained composed in the crucial late rounds. nilo and yxngstxr won several important mid-round duels, allowing HEROIC to close the map 13-11 before Aurora could force overtime.

xfl0ud leads the server

Yasin “xfl0ud” Koç became the clear MVP of the match with a 1.53 rating, 41 kills, and over 100 ADR across the series. nilo also had a strong showing with a 1.40 rating, while Aurora struggled to find consistent impact outside of XANTARES and Wicadia.

For Aurora, the loss is an early warning sign after several strong events earlier this season. The team looked individually sharp at moments, but coordination issues and weak defensive setups cost them heavily in key rounds.

Recent form and tournament context

Aurora came into Astana after mixed results over the past weeks. They recently defeated B8 and HOTU, but also suffered losses against NAVI and MOUZ during IEM Rio 2026. HEROIC, meanwhile, continued building momentum after wins against BIG and Ninjas in Pyjamas, showing much stronger form than their ranking initially suggested.

The victory also extended HEROIC’s strong head-to-head record over Aurora. The Scandinavian side had already beaten Aurora twice at PGL Masters Bucharest 2025, and once again proved to be a difficult stylistic matchup for the Turkish roster.

VRS impact

The result also affected the Valve Regional Standings:

  • Aurora: -21 points → drop to #11
  • HEROIC: +54 points → climb to #17

With the win, HEROIC move to the 1-0 pool at PGL Astana 2026, while Aurora fall into the lower Swiss bracket and will now play elimination-pressure matches much earlier than expected.

G2 crush Fisher College 2-0 in opening round of PGL Astana 2026

G2 started their PGL Astana 2026 run with a dominant 2-0 victory over Fisher College in the opening Swiss stage. The European squad completely controlled the series, winning Ancient 13-1 before finishing Inferno 13-5 in one of the most one-sided matches of the first day.

From the very beginning, the difference in experience and firepower was obvious. Fisher College struggled to keep up with G2’s pace, while huNter-, HeavyGod, and NertZ consistently punished every mistake across both maps.

G2 completely outclass Fisher College

Ancient turned into a nightmare for Fisher College almost immediately. G2’s CT side shut down every attempt at map control, while huNter- and NertZ repeatedly opened rounds with aggressive rifle duels. Fisher managed to secure only a single round before G2 closed the map 13-1.

Inferno was slightly more competitive, mainly due to several successful entries from corn, but G2 still remained firmly in control. Their utility usage and site retakes constantly denied Fisher any momentum, and the European side comfortably secured the second map 13-5.

NertZ shines in dominant team performance

Guy “NertZ” Iluz became the standout player of the series with a 1.77 rating, 97.2 ADR, and 31 kills in only two maps. huNter- followed closely behind with a 1.57 rating, while HeavyGod and m0NESY’s replacement MATYS also posted strong numbers throughout the match.

On the opposite side, Fisher College had major issues converting opening fights into round wins. corn was the only player to finish with a positive rating, while the rest of the lineup struggled heavily against G2’s pressure.

Teams arrive in very different form

G2 entered Astana after inconsistent recent results, including losses to Vitality and FaZe, but the team still showed clear Tier-1 quality against lower opposition. Fisher College arrived as one of the biggest underdogs of the event after losses to Wildcard and regain in recent online competitions.

Although the match was expected to favor G2, the level of dominance still stood out. Fisher rarely looked capable of contesting map control or slowing G2’s tempo.

VRS impact

The result also influenced the Valve Regional Standings:

  • G2: +8 points → remain #12
  • Fisher College: +11 points → rise to #95

G2 now advance to the 1-0 Swiss pool at PGL Astana 2026, while Fisher College move into the 0-1 bracket where every next series becomes increasingly important.
