NIP bring back their legendary logo ahead of the Budapest Major — but there’s a catch

The organization Ninjas in Pyjamas has stunned fans by announcing the return of their iconic logo, a symbol of the golden era of CS:GO. Social media immediately exploded with nostalgia — the “old faithful shuriken” is back, at least temporarily.

The Return of a Legend

The announcement quickly went viral, gaining tens of thousands of views and sparking emotional reactions across the community. The old NIP emblem — four stylized shuriken blades on a dark brown background — reappeared on the organization’s official visuals for the first time in years.

Since 2017, NIP has updated its identity several times, aiming to make the brand more modern and adaptable across multiple games. However, fans never embraced the newer versions as warmly as the original. That’s why the decision to bring back the “legend” ahead of Major Budapest 2025 was seen as a symbolic gesture — a return to roots and nostalgia. But the celebration didn’t last long. Just hours after the announcement, NIP shared an update:

After reviewing the rules carefully, we had to submit our main logo for the major. This means the Budapest Major stickers won’t feature the OG logo.

In short, Valve did not allow the old logo to appear at the Major due to tournament regulations requiring teams to submit their current main organizational logo for all official materials and stickers.

Valve’s Rules and NIP’s “Loophole”

According to Valve’s guidelines, any Major-related content — stickers, banners, tournament graphics — must display “the main, legally registered logo of the organization.” This rule helps avoid confusion between different divisions of the same brand (for example, CS2, Valorant, or Dota 2).

That’s why NIP cannot use the old logo on the Budapest Major 2025 stickers. Still, the organization found a clever workaround — a “retro rebrand” applied only to their CS2 roster, without altering the official logo for other games. Unlike Liquid or M80, who unified their branding across all esports divisions, NIP went for a playful twist — bringing back the classic logo exclusively for Counter-Strike fans.

Community Reaction: Nostalgia, Memes, and Promises

After the first post, Twitter practically exploded — thousands of users shared memes, reminisced about the old days, and made wild promises. One fan wrote:

If you bring back the old logo I’ll genuinely eat my own ass.

To which NIP cheekily replied:

Waiting for the video.

The exchange spread across social media like wildfire, perfectly capturing the humor and chaos of the classic CS:GO community spirit.

Others were more balanced in their takes:

It’s a bit outdated, but the new one is even worse; there should be something in between the two,”— wrote @woxicfedaisi.

NIP’s short and witty response — “Yok.” — became another viral moment.

Meanwhile, esports media and fan accounts flooded timelines with memes:

Why This Story Matters

The return of the old logo turned into a brilliant marketing move ahead of the Major. NIP managed to capture the attention of the entire CS2 community, trigger a wave of nostalgia, and remind everyone of their legacy. Even though the OG logo won’t appear on Major stickers, the goal has already been achieved — millions of impressions, memes, and discussions across social media.
Industry analysts suggest that NIP could use this momentum to redesign their identity in the future, creating something that blends the vintage shuriken aesthetic with the neon style of their 2021 branding.
