The first day of the group bracket often quickly separates the teams that are already ready to dictate the terms from those that still have to search for their game under the pressure of the lower bracket. This is especially noticeable when both series end without a third map, but with different internal dynamics.
Tournament context
IEM Rio 2026 is played in a group stage format with double-elimination Bo3. In the opening upper-bracket matches, a win moves a team into the upper semi-finals, while a loss immediately sends it to lower round 1, where any further slip-up already becomes critical.
In Group A, this slot featured two series at once: Spirit vs Liquid and Falcons vs 3DMAX. By the end of the matches, Spirit and Falcons had continued their run through the upper side of the bracket, while Liquid and 3DMAX dropped into the lower one.
