The second Counter-Strike Major of 2027 will take place in China, according to an announcement from the official Chinese Counter-Strike account. The host city has not yet been officially revealed, although Shanghai was previously reported as the expected location of the tournament.
CHINA CONFIRMED AS HOST OF THE SECOND 2027 MAJOR
The announcement appeared as part of activities celebrating the ninth anniversary of Counter-Strike in China.
One of the anniversary events asks fans to guess which Chinese city will host the 2027 Major. The post directly confirms that the tournament will take place in China while leaving the exact location undisclosed.
The anniversary campaign itself runs from September 8 to 15, 2026. These dates apply only to the community event and are not the dates of the Major.
This is the first official confirmation that China will host one of the two Counter-Strike Majors scheduled for 2027.
SHANGHAI WAS PREVIOUSLY REPORTED AS THE LOCATION
Earlier in 2026, HLTV reported that the second Major of 2027 was expected to take place in Shanghai from November 22 to December 12.
According to that report, Perfect World was set to organize the tournament. At the time, however, neither the organizer nor Valve had publicly confirmed the information.
The latest announcement changes part of that picture: China is now officially confirmed as the host country, while Shanghai and Perfect World remain reported rather than officially announced.
If Shanghai is eventually confirmed, Counter-Strike would return to the city for another Major only three years after Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024.
CHINA ALREADY HOSTED A MAJOR IN 2024
The Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 became the first Counter-Strike Major held in China.
Spirit won the tournament after defeating FaZe 2:1 in the Grand Final, while Danil “donk” Kryshkovets received the MVP award.
The event gave China its first experience hosting the biggest Valve-backed tournament in Counter-Strike. The newly confirmed 2027 Major will now bring the competition back to the country.
The first Major of 2027 is set to take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina. That means China will host the second Major of the year, with the exact city, organizer and full event details still awaiting an official announcement.
