Astralis claimed third place at ESL Pro League Season 23 after defeating FUT 2–1 in the third-place decider. The Danish squad recovered after dropping the opening map and delivered two strong performances on Ancient and Overpass to close the series and finish the tournament on a high note. FUT had started the match with momentum, but Astralis gradually took control of the series thanks to strong individual performances and improved structure on the final two maps.

Path through the tournament

Both teams had already delivered strong performances earlier in the playoffs before meeting in the third-place decider.

  • Astralis reached the match after a tough semifinal loss to Aurora, following an impressive victory over Spirit in the quarterfinals. Despite missing out on the grand final, the Danish roster managed to bounce back and finish the event in third place.
  • FUT, meanwhile, had made one of the most surprising runs of the tournament. The squad defeated MOUZ in the earlier playoff stage and later eliminated G2 before reaching the semifinals, where they were stopped by Natus Vincere.

Although their run ended just short of the podium, FUT still secured a respectable fourth-place finish in their first ESL Pro League playoffs appearance.

Dust2 — FUT strike first (13–8)

The series opened on Dust2, FUT’s map pick, and the European roster immediately looked comfortable. Early-round aggression and well-timed executes allowed FUT to gain control of the pace.

Laurentiu “lauNX” Țârlea and Džiugas “dziugss” Steponavičius provided consistent impact throughout the map, helping FUT build a steady lead. Astralis struggled to find openings on their T side, and despite a few late-round attempts to recover, FUT secured the opener 13–8.

Ancient — Astralis respond (13–4)

Astralis answered convincingly on Ancient, their map pick. The Danish team dominated the early rounds, establishing strong defensive setups that completely shut down FUT’s attacking attempts.

With Victor “Staehr” Staehr and phzy leading the fragging output, Astralis controlled the tempo of the game and quickly built a large advantage. FUT failed to find solutions against Astralis’ aggressive defensive rotations, allowing the Danes to close the map comfortably 13–4 and tie the series.

Overpass — Astralis close the series (16–12)

The decider Overpass turned into the most competitive map of the series. Both teams traded rounds early, with FUT managing to keep the score close thanks to several well-executed mid-round plays.

However, as the game progressed, Astralis began to take control. Their defensive setups became increasingly effective, while clutch moments from phzy and Staehr helped secure crucial late rounds.

After a tense second half, Astralis eventually closed the map 16–12, sealing the 2–1 series victory and third place at ESL Pro League Season 23.
