How do you measure the impact of coaches in Counter-Strike? That’s one of the toughest questions to answer, as we have little to no information to rely on. Looking only at four 30-second pauses to assist players during an official game shouldn’t be enough.
Nowadays, many professional teams consider coaches to be one of the most important pieces when building a roster. They are responsible for scouting players, choosing the IGL, who usually needs to have a very close relationship with the coach, and helping the project succeed both in and out of the server. Coaches often share management roles, such as helping decide the calendar and tournaments/qualifiers to participate in, building strategies together with psychologists and performance coaches, and, of course, helping players on a daily basis to become the best versions of themselves.
As a professional coach myself, I find it a little bit easier to understand the profession. In this article, I am going to break down for you guys what I consider to be the 5 BEST Coaches (in every aspect) currently in CS2. Get some popcorn and enjoy the read!

B1ad3

Andrii “B1ad3” Gorodenskiy, the most popular Ukrainian coach, has been a staple in the Counter-Strike scene for over a decade. Starting as a player in CS 1.6, and then transitioning to CS:GO under the banner of FlipSid3, he later moved to coaching in 2018. He has always been the IGL for the majority of his teams and is regarded as one of the greatest minds in Counter-Strike. As a coach, he has achieved notable success with teams like FlipSid3 Tactics and Natus Vincere (Na’Vi). In CS2, B1ad3 continues to demonstrate his unparalleled strategic approach and leadership qualities.
Coaching Notable Achievements
Under B1ad3’s guidance, Na’Vi has remained a formidable force in the competitive scene. They secured two major victories in 2021 at PGL Major Stockholm and the most recent and first CS2 Major at PGL Copenhagen 2024. Na’Vi also won several other Tier 1 tournaments, including prestigious events such as IEM Katowice, ESL Pro League, and IEM Cologne. I believe that B1ad3’s experience throughout his career as a player and IGL has been a key factor in helping Na’Vi achieve success with different rosters. He has always been an IGL with a unique and methodical approach to the game, incorporating innovative strategies and ways of preparing for opponents. This makes him one of the most feared (in a good way) and respected figures in the coaching community.

My perspective on B1ad3 as a Coach
Having competed against some of his teams, including him as a player, I think one of B1ad3’s strongest qualities has been his ability to be innovative with in-game strategies. He is well-known for his very slow and methodical approach to Counter-Strike, which may seem out of meta nowadays but has always been extremely challenging to play against. It felt like any mistakes your players made or any overextensions were punished, and it always seemed like they had an answer for every aggressive move you made.
In my eyes, B1ad3 is also very skilled in managing players and rosters. He has discovered many new talented players in Ukraine, such as b1t, Perfecto, npl, and many others. He also helped Boombl4 become one of the best IGLs in the world and assisted s1mple in becoming the goat of Counter-Strike. All these qualities, combined with the results he has achieved over the years, make him, for me, the best coach of all time in CS.
Zonic

Danny “Zonic” Sørensen, the Danish legend, has a storied history in Counter-Strike. From his days as a top-tier player in CS 1.6 in SK and two legendary German organizations, mTw and mouz, he then disappeared until 2015 when he transitioned into coaching in CS:GO for Dignitas. He then joined Astralis in 2016, where he led the team to multiple Major victories and cemented his legacy as one of the greatest coaches of all time.
Coaching Notable Achievements

Zonic is the most accomplished coach in CS. He’s a five-time Major Champion and has won everything the game has to offer in terms of Tier 1 events under the legendary Astralis organization, which he helped develop throughout the years. Not satisfied with winning it all, he decided to depart the organization in 2022 and join Vitality, together with one of the hottest prospects, ZyWoO, with the ambition to help his first English-speaking team to win as many events as he did with Astralis. Surprisingly, he helped them win their first CS Major on home soil at BLAST Paris Major, as well as many other important events such as IEM Rio and ESL Pro League S16.

Now facing another big challenge, he left Vitality and has become the Head Coach for Team Falcons, where he struggles to find the same level of consistency and results he’s had in the past. However, that doesn’t erase Zonic’s ability to build team cohesion and instill a winning mentality throughout his career. His experience and tactical prowess have allowed him to seamlessly transition into the CS2 landscape, maintaining his status as an elite coach.
My perspective on Zonic as a Coach
Having the opportunity to see a bit of his daily routines as a Head Coach when I was the Head Coach of Heroic – co-owned by the same group back in the day – I had the chance to have conversations with him and truly get a sense of what made Danny so successful in his career. I think he is simply the best in terms of building strong foundations in his rosters, ensuring that every single player is comfortable within their roles in the game. He is also very good at managing personalities outside of the game. Everyone I met throughout my career who worked with him always praised his ability to have productive conversations with his players, manage expectations, fix problems within the team, and ensure everyone maintained a good and productive mood during practices and official matches.

While having this “dad figure” presence outside of the server, his teams always shown a lot of innovative strategies, especially regarding utility usage. This was one of the things that made the legendary Astralis dictate the meta back in the day on several maps, such as Inferno, with the effective use of HE grenades and molotovs they were introduced to the game.
I genuinely can’t wait to see what he’s going to accomplish with this Falcons roster. It’s true that they have been struggling, and it’s true that we don’t live by past results alone, but one thing is for sure: you should NEVER doubt Zonic’s ability to build successful projects. This may be a tough period, but I am certain that he will succeed in the long run.
Sycrone

Dennis “sycrone” Nielsen is a relatively new face in the elite coaching ranks, but has quickly made a name for himself in CS2. Despite not being as successful as a player as the other two names I have already mentioned in this article, he started his career in 2016 for Singularity and had short journeys with famous organizations such as Sprout, Copenhagen Flames, Tricked. To finally transition to coaching in 2021 in MOUZ NTX, the academy project of the legendary German organization, where he started to develop his coaching skills.

MOUZ at the moment is a very stable team and has participated in nearly all Tier 1 events throughout the year. They delivered tremendous performances at the IEM Rio Major, finishing 3rd/4th, reached the Quarterfinals at the first CS2 major in Copenhagen, and have won a few Tier 1 events under his belt on ESL Pro League S18 and S19. They have also consistently secured 2nd and 3rd places in the majority of Tier 1 events over the last two years. Sycrone’s innovative approach and ability to discover new talents have been pivotal to MOUZ’s rise in the CS2 competitive scene.
My perspective on sycrone as a Coach
I haven’t competed against him much, but watching from the outside and using my experience, I can tell that he has two very good qualities as a coach. The first is his ability to discover new talents and turn them into very good players. Sycrone has everything to be as successful as B1ad3 in that regard. The storyline of him turning many of his academy players into successful CS pros is really unique and impressive. His expertise in that regard would benefit any organization out there and obviously save them a lot of money by not having to pay expensive buyouts for top players.
The second quality is his authority as a head coach. You can tell how much the players respect his opinion. He often takes very good timeouts, and you can see his impact in the majority of them as they end up winning the following rounds and matches.

In my books, sycrone has established himself as one of the best coaches in the current meta. He is certainly very under the radar and doesn’t try to put himself in the spotlight by sharing with the public how much he does or does not contribute to his team. However, the fact is that results speak for themselves. There’s no other coach out there who has accomplished what he did in a short period of time and with very inexperienced players.
sAw

Eetu “sAw” Saha, the Finnish tactician, has been a prominent figure in the Counter-Strike scene. Starting as a professional player in 2016 for iGame, he then transitioned to HAVU, where he spent the majority of his career. He also transitioned to Head Coach within the organization and stayed until 2019, when he left to join ENCE and build his first international roster together with Marco “Snappi” Pfeiffer, the IGL he chose to help him on this journey.
At ENCE, he was put in the spotlight as a Head Coach and was considered by many to be the best coach in the world in 2023 where they peaked in performance and became a very formidable lineup.
In late 2023, he decided to join forces with HEROIC, where they gave him full control and trust over the roster after Xizt left, allowing him to build a project from scratch. Although results have not been that good lately, considering the same happened with ENCE, do not count Heroic out as all they need is a bit more time as a team to prove themselves.

Coaching Notable Achievements

As the head coach of ENCE, he certainly doesn’t have many titles; in fact, they only won IEM Dallas 2023. But the lack of trophies does not do justice to the number of very good runs in tournaments they had. With a 3rd place at PGL Antwerp Major, 3 Legend Status across all majors between 2021 and 2023, as well as strong performances at IEM Cologne 2023, Gamers8 2023, playoffs in ALL ESL Pro Leagues throughout the years, and many other smaller events. More importantly, one of his most significant achievements isn’t necessarily the results, but what he has been able to accomplish with very questionable and inexperienced players under an organization that constantly had issues with roster changes.
My perspective on sAw as a Coach
In this list of coaches, I would dare to say that sAw is probably one of the smartest when it comes to in-game knowledge. He certainly likes to be much more involved within the in-game decisions than all of the names mentioned previously. I have seen Snappi, his old IGL, talk about him several times in interviews, explaining to the audience how glad he was to have sAw on the roster because of his expertise and how much he contributed to their results.
Now in Heroic, he’s facing the first few big challenges. The first and most important is the absence of Snappi and having to work with a much less experienced IGL in kyxsan. This is a much harder test, similar to what Zonic was able to do with apEX and B1ad3 was able to do with Boombl4. Now it’s his turn to prove himself if he wants to mark his name as one of the best coaches of all time. If he is able to make this Heroic roster function while making kyxsan become a successful IGL, then that’s a great start. However, in terms of titles, sAw still has a very long journey compared to some of the other names we mentioned.

Hally

Andrey “hally” Kukharskyi, one of the most popular coaches from Russian, has risen through the ranks to become one of the top coaches in CS2. While he barely has a player career, he follows a similar path as Sycrone and is the mastermind behind Spirit’s in building successful rosters in the last few years. Having joined the organization back in 2021, he has coached multiple players and helped to discover many talented players, including one of the hottest prospects of all time, donk.
Coaching Notable Achievements

His biggest achievement has to be helping Spirit to find donk, right? Jokes aside, this man has been a part of Spirit since 2021, coaching different generations of their rosters, and one thing is undeniable: Spirit has always been a very annoying team to play against. In the first few years, they were the type of team that could go to any Tier 1 event and were capable of winning against anyone but lacked the experience to do so. Results-wise, they haven’t won any majors yet, but they made it to quarterfinals in two of them in 2022 and 2024. However, there’s nothing to be ashamed of, as they certainly achieved success by winning a tournament with major status at IEM Katowice 2024, one of the toughest and most prestigious events in the CS calendar.
My perspective on Hally as a Coach
I don`t really have much to say about Hally as I haven’t competed much against him. From the outside, I can just tell the amount of respect he has from his players. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that when he was banned by ESIC at the PGL Antwerp, all of his players were desperately trying to fix the situation and prove his innocence, as he was a very important piece of the puzzle for them. In terms of what he delivers to the team, I think it’s a mixture between being a dad figure and helping the team on the strategic side of things. He definitely has one quality that, in my opinion, you NEED to have if you want to become one of the best coaches in the world: scouting abilities,
Spirit is also the type of organization that has lost or changed players plenty of times. Initially, they certainly weren’t an organization that invested a lot of money into their rosters, and there are rumors that their players aren’t getting paid anywhere near the top teams’ salaries in the world. So, just the fact that this man is able to keep their players in check and motivated, has been working under the same IGL for many years, and has helped him reinvent himself multiple times, speaks volumes. They have always been a very methodical and hard team to play against, capable of beating anyone.
If I had to mention one thing about Team Spirit, it has to be their consistency. It’s very rare to watch them struggle without having answers to whatever approach they face. They always put up a great fight and take very effective timeouts, and that, for me, is an indication that they are on the right path to succeed even more in the future.
