Counter-Strike 2 has recorded its fifth straight month of declining average player numbers, marking the longest uninterrupted downward trend since 2021. The latest SteamCharts data has reignited discussions within the community, with many players once again pointing to Valve’s anti-cheat system as one of the game’s biggest unresolved issues.
Five months of decline after a strong start to 2026
According to SteamCharts, CS2 reached an average of 1,070,443 players in January 2026. Since then, the numbers have fallen every month:

July alone saw the game lose more than 63,000 average players, bringing the average player count to its lowest level of the year. Community members also noted that this is the first time since the final months of CS:GO in 2021 that the game has experienced five consecutive months of declining averages.

The statistics quickly spread across X, where players, content creators, and analysts debated what was behind CS2’s fifth consecutive month of declining player numbers.
