The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) has announced the provisional suspension of NOMERCY and all of the team’s players while it investigates potential breaches of its Integrity Program. The decision took effect immediately and has already sparked major discussion within the Counter-Strike community following controversy surrounding suspicious matches at a LAN event in Portugal.

What happened

The investigation concerns several NOMERCY matches, including the team’s appearance at Roman Imperium Cup VII, which took place on March 28 in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. It was there that the team produced extremely poor results and finished the tournament with four one-sided defeats:

  • vs BetBoom — 0:13
  • vs Sangal — 3:13
  • vs BESTIA — 1:13
  • vs Wildcard — 1:13

The team finished last in its group, while several matches quickly became the subject of discussion due to strange in-game decisions and unusual round play.

$57,000 betting scandal

The biggest social media explosion came after a screenshot surfaced on twitter showing a $57,000 accumulator bet backing NOMERCY’s opponents with a -9.5 round handicap. The potential payout on the ticket was worth more than $4.5 million. According to tournament organizers, the bookmaker later voided the bet, although it remains unclear whether other platforms did the same.

What ESIC is investigating

In its statement, ESIC said the suspicions involve multiple areas:

  • abnormal and high-value betting activity linked to match results and round margins;
  • gameplay behavior inconsistent with expected professional standards;
  • repeated low-percentage decisions in key moments;
  • failure to convert advantageous positions;
  • additional concerns related to team formation and participant history.

Who was suspended

All five members of the roster were included in the interim sanction:

  • János “James8k” Fodor
  • Sreten “srtn1” Smiljanić
  • Oliver “kzy” Heck
  • Petar “perakokanje” Bešir
  • Palkovics “playN” Tamás

The most notable name on the list is Oliver “kzy” Heck, who previously represented MOUZ, ALTERNATE aTTaX, and Unicorns of Love, and briefly returned to the scene in 2025.

What the temporary ban means

Until the investigation is completed, the team and players are prohibited from:

  • participating in ESIC member events;
  • competing in sanctioned leagues, qualifiers, and tournaments;
  • working in any capacity in ESIC-recognized competitions.

ESIC also emphasized that this is not a final verdict, but only a protective interim measure during the investigation.

Community reaction: from shock to calls for harsher punishments

After the betting slip screenshot and the suspension announcement were published, social media erupted. Many users openly mocked the situation, while others called for stricter oversight of tier-2 and tier-3 tournaments. Analyst Bogdan claimed tournament organizers were allegedly blocking users who pointed out suspicious activity during the event:

Tournament organisers were just blocking users who were aware of the situation. Shadiness at its peak.

Other users were stunned by the scale of the potential winnings. One comment quickly went viral:

bro just casually got 4.5 million

Part of the community argued that NOMERCY looked so weak that betting against them with a handicap seemed obvious:

I mean its not unexpected if these guys went -9.5 on every map, look at their faceit elo they are not even a proper team.

Some fans also criticized the bookmakers for offering such high limits on a low-profile tier-2 LAN:

Fault is on Stake on this one. Who tf is handing out round handicaps for a team like this?

There were also comparisons to previous match-fixing punishments:

IBUYPOWER got banned for 10K each, this is 4,5 Million.

The NOMERCY story has already become one of the most controversial CS stories of 2026. The combination of crushing defeats, a viral multimillion-dollar betting slip, and ESIC’s rapid response created a massive wave across the scene. Now the community will wait for the final results of the investigation — and possible long-term bans if the suspicions are confirmed.
