Thirty-two of the world’s best Counter-Strike 2 teams will battle for a $2 million prize pool at the Esports World Cup 2027. The organizers have now confirmed the full schedule, format, and qualification structure for the event. As a result, teams and fans finally have a complete picture of what awaits in Riyadh.
This matters because EWC 2027 keeps the expanded structure introduced this year while adding extra detail on qualification paths and prize distribution. Therefore, every club chasing the trophy now knows exactly what stands between them and the title.
Tournament Dates and Location
The action will once again take place at the Esports Boulevard in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Teams are set to arrive on July 18, 2027, followed by Media Day on July 19. The tournament itself will run from July 20 to August 1, 2027, with departures scheduled for August 1 and 2. In addition, every stage of the event, including the Open Qualifier, will be played entirely in person on LAN.
Qualification and Invite Structure
Invites will follow the first available monthly VRS publication of June 2027, while tournament seeding will be based on the first available monthly VRS publication of July 2027. However, invite exceptions will apply if a player is serving a ban.
The Main Event will feature 20 Global VRS invites alongside two North American, two South American, and two Asian VRS invites. Two additional teams will enter through wildcard invites, meanwhile the final four spots will go to the winners of the Riyadh Open Qualifier.
Tournament Format
Stage 1 will split the 32 teams into four groups of eight, competing in a double-elimination format. The top four teams from each group will then advance to Stage 2. From there, 16 teams will face off on LAN in the playoffs, with all matches played as best-of-three until the Grand Final, which will be decided in a best-of-five series.
Prize Pool Breakdown
The $2 million prize pool will be distributed based on final placement. First place will collect $700,000, while second place earns $300,000. Third place will receive $150,000, and fourth place will take home $90,000. Teams finishing fifth through eighth will each earn $60,000, meanwhile ninth through sixteenth place will receive $35,000 apiece. Seventeenth through twenty-third place will collect $20,000 each, and the remaining teams from twenty-fourth to thirty-second place will each receive $10,000.
Open Qualifier in Riyadh
The Open Qualifier runs from July 16 to 18, 2027, at the Esports Boulevard in Riyadh. This stage also happens entirely in person as a non-BYOC LAN event. All participating teams must register in advance. Four Main Event slots are on the line, backed by a separate $100,000 prize pool.
The top four qualifier teams earn direct qualification to the Main Event. Fifth through eighth place each receive $9,500. Ninth through sixteenth place each collect $7,750. More details about registration will follow soon.
Counter-Strike 2 Locked In Through 2028
Counter-Strike 2 will remain part of the Esports World Cup beyond 2027. The 2028 edition is tentatively scheduled to run from July 14 to 30, though further details have not yet been revealed.
