IEM Cologne Major 2026 has officially become the biggest tournament in Counter-Strike history. According to Esports Charts, the event peaked at 2,750,036 concurrent viewers, surpassing the previous record of 2,748,434 set during PGL Major Stockholm 2021 and rewriting every major audience benchmark in the discipline. The record-breaking numbers came during the grand final, where Team Falcons swept FURIA 3-0 to claim the organization’s first Major title. The victory also marked the long-awaited first Major trophies for Nikola “NiKo” Kovač and Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, while Finn “karrigan” Andersen secured the second Major championship of his career.

Esports Charts confirmed that IEM Cologne Major 2026 became the most successful event in Counter-Strike history across all three key categories:

  • Peak Viewers — 2,750,036
  • Average Viewers — new all-time record
  • Hours Watched — more than 100 million, another record

Cologne thus became the first Counter-Strike tournament to surpass the 100-million Hours Watched mark, eclipsing the previous benchmark of just over 76 million. The new peak audience narrowly surpassed the record established at PGL Major Stockholm 2021, ending a five-year reign and cementing IEM Cologne Major 2026 as the most-watched event ever held in the game.

Falcons complete dream run

The historic viewership figures accompanied one of the most memorable title runs in recent years. Falcons entered the playoffs by eliminating NAVI, Team Vitality and Team Spirit before dominating FURIA in the grand final.

The title ended NiKo’s long wait for a Major trophy and gave m0NESY his first triumph at Valve’s flagship event. For karrigan, it was a second Major title after previously winning PGL Major Antwerp 2022 with FaZe Clan.

Having joined Falcons only two months before the event, the Danish captain immediately guided his new team to Counter-Strike’s biggest prize.

Community reactions

The record sparked widespread discussion across social media. Many fans celebrated the achievement and praised the storylines that unfolded throughout the tournament. One fan wrote:

People are here to witness great stories fulfilled. Finally m0NESY has a major.

Others noted that the grand final taking place on Father’s Day may have prevented the audience from climbing even higher. Several users suggested that the event could have surpassed the three-million mark had the series gone to four or five maps instead of ending in a 3-0 sweep. There were also debates regarding Chinese viewership, with some community members believing the real audience was even larger due to regional streams that are difficult to track accurately. Meanwhile, some fans joked that Counter-Strike discussions inevitably turned into comparisons with VALORANT, while others simply celebrated the achievement with short messages such as “CS “.

A new benchmark

Although Esports Charts noted that the final numbers could still increase slightly as data continues to be updated, IEM Cologne Major 2026 has already secured its place in history. Five years after Stockholm set the previous benchmark, Cologne has become the new standard for Counter-Strike esports and delivered one of the most significant moments the scene has ever witnessed.
