Counter-Strike Majors are the most significant events in the annual calendar. The prestige, the thrill, the unforgettable, sensational feeling of watching the best teams in the world go toe-to-toe in a high-stakes game where pride, accolades, and honor are on the line. But in addition to being the “White House UFC octagon”, a Counter-Strike Major is also the proving ground for the next generation of superstars.

Much like Emil “nota” Moskvitin during the StarLadder Budapest Major, who introduced himself to the world as a great talent, or someone like Ivan “zweih” Gogin, whose performance at the Blast Austin Major 2025 landed him a spot on Team Spirit, as an extreme example, there always seems to be a couple of greenies to stand out, shine, and turn all of the viewers of the first Major stages into scouts.

It is true that the level of competition, experience, and overall quality of the Counter-Strike on display is not the highest when it comes down to the opening stage of a Major championship, which, according to world-wide famous pundit, analyst, and journalist – Duncan “Thorin” Shields, means that the VRS has maybe done its job. However, that phenomenon allows the viewer to shift their attention towards the rising stars of tomorrow. The players whose teams might not be playing the cleanest world-class level CS, but still look like unpolished diamonds.

In this article, we’ll be taking a look at 3 of the names, whose games will be worth watching during Stage 1 of the IEM Cologne Major 2026.

3. João “koala” Pedro

Entering the Major as one of the biggest underdogs of Stage 1, the Brazilian roster actually hides a couple of individuals with remarkable individual skill, but the goal here is not to speak about the amount of people who will see their 0-3 Sharks pick burn in front of their very eyes. Instead, we will focus on 21-year-old anchor and lurker – koala.

Rising from FURIA’s academy project where he played with names like Lucas ‘decenty’ Bacelar and Kaue ‘kauez’ Kaschuk, koala spent the early days of his career in the shadows of multiple aggressive stars, and until 2024 he never got an opportunity to represent one of the bigger Brazilian teams, going through the ranks of teams like The Union and Galorys.

Unlike many of his peers, koala had the unique opportunity of going through multiple roles throughout his stints on different teams, allowing himself to build a more complete perspective of how every role and position around the map works. As a result of fulfilling these different roles, he’s transformed himself into a very intelligent player, who’s been able to show a great understanding of the game, albeit his limited international experience. After joining Shark in 2024, he spent the better part of his first year and a half as the team’s most consistent element, regardless of not taking any space around the map.

His crisp mechanical ability, in addition to his undeniable game sense, and obvious sharp mind in clutch scenarios, have established him as Sharks’ highest rated player in 2026, averaging a 1.11 rating with a 0.7 KPR and a 17.9% multi-kill potential, best shown in his anchor spots on CT-sides, where he averages a 1.13 rating over the 9 LAN events he’s played this year.

His consistency and ability to be an “always good for more than one kill”-type of anchor were on show during Sharks’ European campaign during CCT Global Finals, Stake Ranked Episode 2 CQ (Online), BC Game Masters Championship, as well as the ongoing Stake Ranked 2 LAN Finals, where he played a key role in his team’s wins over the likes of Betclic, BET-M, 100 Thieves, and 9z.

As much as Sharks doesn’t look like a team, capable of having a deep run in Cologne, koala is definitely one of the most exciting young Brazilian players who looks destined for an opportunity in one of the leading South American teams in the future.

2. Kirill “Magnojez” Rodnov

Donk, kyousuke, zont1x, Patsi, s1ren, Artfr0st, KaiR0N. This isn’t just a random set of names of some of the most talented players to have come out of the Russian scene over the course of the last 5 years, but rather a list of some of Spirit Academy’s brightest prospects. Contrary to popular belief, donk and kyousuke are not the only flamboyant, mechanically unbelievable talents to have risen out of the Russian organization’s academy program. Another name on the list of star players is also the one of 21-year-old Kirill ‘Magnojez’ Rodnov.

Because of the amount of supertalents, who would instantly break through the mold, and rise up to the highest level of competition as teenagers, we seem to have forgotten the concept of gradual improvement, gaining experience, and slowly progressing through the ranks. A concept that is more than accurate and applicable in Magnojez’s case.

After his time at Spirit Academy, the Russian rifler joined BetBoom. A team that, at the time, was nowhere near the heights and potential of today, but still had names like nafany & KaiR0N, as well as s1ren, and zorte, who are still Magno’s teammates today. Over the next couple of years, he went through a multitude of ups and downs, showing flashes of individual brilliance, but struggling to find consistency, until the start of 2026.

Whilst embracing the role of an entry on the T-side, as well as the star player on CT-sides, being responsible for 28.1% of his team’s opening-kill attempts on the defense, as well as 31.6% on the offense, Magnojez has been one of the revelations of 2026. Posting a 1.21 overall rating (1.20 on the T-side, and 1.22 on the CT-side) with a 0.77 KPR, and a +1.78% SWING. His stats might be slightly worse when it comes down to LAN events, but the drop-off is almost insignificant. Over the course of 128 maps played, and 7 LAN events, Magnojez has finally proven that he is capable of achieving consistency, even whilst his team was going through constant roster changes and playing the season out with a multitude of different iterations.

His consistency led the team to winning 3x Tier 2 LAN events, placing in the top 4 of all 7 played, as well as a top 4 finish at IEM Atlanta 2026, where regardless of his T-side struggles, he posted an impressive 1.23 rating on the CT-side, playing a key role in BB’s wins over B8, Team Vitality & paiN Gaming.

He might not be as flashy, and as exciting of a player as donk & kyousuke, but his efficiency, calm character, and undeniable mechanics make him the perfect ‘silent killer’. A player, whose slow and steady progression, and improving in-game confidence, could definitely be one of the next Russian stars to get that Tier 1 promotion, maybe even sooner than we all expect.

1. Felipe “insani” Yuji

To end the list, it’s time to give light to a well-known name to the Counter-Strike scene. A player who was, for many years, considered, and probably still is, the biggest talent that Brazil has produced since Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato. Because of how early insani started making a name for himself with MIBR’s jersey, it felt too easy to forget that this young phenom is only just 22 years old. After joining the Brazilian organization in January of 2023, Felipe Yuji quickly established himself as an undeniable talent – one of these players to possess the rare ability of making the impossible seem quite easy and achievable to all.

After posting an impressive 1.27 rating at his first international LAN – IEM Katowice 2023 Play-In, he was quickly recognized as a prospect, but following his team’s multiple roster changes, lack of a stable AWP presence, and a high-quality IGL/Coach combination, his potential was almost being wasted on a crippled MIBR.

However, all of that seems to be changing since the start of 2026. With the addition of Swedish in-game-leader LNZ, as well as Serbian coach and tactician – LETN1, the identity of MIBR has changed in a massive way. And now, under proper leadership, with a significant AWP presence, provided by kl1m, and a more fundamentally sound and structured brand of Counter-Strike, insani is back to his best.

With a 1.25 LAN rating in 2026, and a 1.32 on the CT-side, insani is currently the 4th highest rated player on LAN this year, being bested only by the likes of donk, ZywOo & m0NESY, proving himself to be a fearsome opponent to face on the server.

And if you think these stats are misleading, and caused simply by the lack of competition in Brazil, his second highest rated LAN of the year was the recently held in China CAC 2026, where the sharp shooter posted a 1.40 rating, becoming the highest rated played in the entire tournament, whilst leading his team to key wins over teams like PARIVISION & B8.

He is yet to have one of these showstopping performances against a top 5 team, but the mechanical genius he’s got, is not common. Sharp, fearless, impeccable – he is the type of player you’d expect to be able to hold his own against the best of the best, and the opportunity to do so in Cologne is one that could further prove his case of being Brazil’s №1 talent.
