Valve “stole” skins? CS2 player reports missing expensive gloves after trade

The Counter-Strike 2 community is once again debating inventory safety. A Reddit user claims he lost a high-value skin after a trade via a third-party platform. He is now blaming Valve Corporation. The story went viral after a post by CSComps.gg. It gained hundreds of thousands of views. Soon after, other players started sharing similar experiences.

What happened

According to the user (u/coopstazZ), he tried to sell Specialist Gloves | Crimson Web, worth around $700, through CSFloat. He sent the trade to the buyer. Then the system cancelled it. After that, the item did not return to his inventory. The player also claims the buyer may have received the skin. He contacted Steam Support. However, he only received automated replies. Support mentioned an issue with trade reversals but did not provide a clear solution. The player says the item has been missing for 3–4 weeks.

The case quickly sparked discussion. Several users reported similar issues.

One player said he lost a USP-S in a similar situation:

Same thing happened with me with a 70$ Usp. I sold it on Youpin then trade got cancelled so I didn’t receive the funds and the buyer actually received me usp 😀

Others said their items disappeared but returned after 1–2 days:

This bug is at least 3 weeks old. I sold capsules, Steam canceled the trade, the capsules disappeared from my inventory, and I received them a day later

Some believe this is a Steam server issue or delay:

Support cannot do anything manually, but valve’s backend team is investigating the global bug your knife should back when they fix the issue

Others suggest possible exploits or backend problems:

So: You do the trade with the 3rd party site where you give your item for free to a bot and put a price listing on their site, while bot is holding the item, is that correct?
Someone buys the item, you should receive the money, bot should give them item, correct?

Additional reactions reflect frustration and long-term concerns:

  • “This has happened to me a like 5 years ago, sent a shit skin to a friend as a joke, and it just vanished. I didn’t get it back nor he did.”
  • “Had the same issue happen to me.”
  • “Daily reminder that valve actually owns all our skins ”

Possible explanation

There is no proof that Valve Corporation intentionally removed items. Several technical explanations seem more likely.

  • A Steam server issue around March 4–6
  • Inventory synchronization delays
  • Problems with the trade reversal system
  • Bugs linked to third-party platforms

Importantly, some players reported that their items later returned. This suggests a delay or system issue rather than a permanent loss.

Why this matters

This situation highlights a key issue in the CS2 economy. The skin market is worth billions. However, the trading system still shows signs of instability. Bugs and delays can directly affect valuable items. Until Valve Corporation responds, the discussion will continue. Players remain concerned about the safety of their inventories.
