FaZe secured a place in the BLAST Bounty Season 2 Finals after defeating The MongolZ 2-1 in the quarterfinals. The European squad claimed a hard-fought victory on Nuke, failed to answer on Mirage, but regained control on the decider to book their ticket to the semifinals in Malta.
Road to the BLAST Bounty Finals
FaZe entered the LAN Finals after an impressive online campaign. They defeated EYEBALLERS 2-0 in Stage 1 before overcoming Dendele 2-1 to qualify for Malta. Their victory over The MongolZ now sends them into the semifinals, where the competition intensifies.
The MongolZ also arrived in Malta in excellent form. The Mongolian squad eliminated Wildcard 2-0 after previously beating HEROIC, but their run ended in the quarterfinals despite forcing FaZe to a competitive three-map series.
FaZe survive a tough three-map battle
The series began on Nuke, FaZe’s map pick, and immediately delivered one of the closest maps of the tournament. Both teams traded rounds throughout regulation before FaZe edged out a 16-12 victory after overtime, taking an early lead in the series.
The MongolZ responded convincingly on Mirage, their own pick. The Mongolian side controlled the pace from the opening rounds and repeatedly shut down FaZe’s attacks to secure a comfortable 13-7 win, forcing the match onto Ancient.
With a place in the semifinals on the line, FaZe looked far more composed on Ancient. Strong defensive setups allowed them to build an early advantage before closing the map 13-8, sealing the series 2-1 and eliminating one of the tournament favorites.
Player of the Match
Although FaZe won the series, Usukhbayar “910” Banzragch was voted Player of the Match thanks to his outstanding individual performance. The Mongolian AWPer finished the series with a 1.20 rating, 52-45 K-D, 82.7 ADR, and 75.4% KAST, keeping his team competitive throughout all three maps.
VRS impact
The victory earned FaZe 37 VRS points, lifting them from 15th to 14th in the Valve Regional Standings. The MongolZ lost 3 VRS points, dropping from 14th to 15th after their quarterfinal exit.
Teams react
FaZe coach Niclas “enkay J” Krumhorn admitted the performance was far from perfect but stressed that advancing was all that mattered.
