IEM Rio 2026 is one of the key LAN events of the spring season, bringing 16 teams to Brazil for a week of high-level Counter-Strike. While the Major race is already decided, Rio becomes a pure test of form — with Vitality looking to extend their dominance and the rest of the field trying to close the gap.
Format
The tournament begins with a group stage where 16 teams are split into two groups of eight, following a GSL double-elimination format. All matches are played as best-of-three series, meaning teams have a second chance after their first loss, but no room for consistent mistakes.
From each group, three teams advance to the playoffs. The group winners skip directly to the semifinals, while the second and third place teams move into the quarterfinals, with seeding advantages based on placement.
The playoffs are played in a single-elimination bracket, where every match remains a best-of-three, except for the Grand Final, which is a best-of-five series.

Why It’s Worth Watching
IEM Rio 2026 brings a rare mix of clear hierarchy at the top and complete uncertainty behind it. Vitality enter as the dominant force of the season, playing structured, consistent Counter-Strike that few teams have been able to challenge. Every event now is another step in their era — and Rio is a chance to reinforce that gap.

NAVI remain the closest contenders, showing strong form and deep runs, but still searching for answers in direct matchups. This matchup alone defines the tournament’s ceiling.
Behind them, the field is wide open. FURIA have the home crowd and a chance to reset their season. Teams like Aurora, Spirit, and Falcons come in with unstable results, making them dangerous but unpredictable. G2 play with a stand-in, Liquid are rebuilding, and several Tier-2 teams step into a rare opportunity to upset the structure.
Rio is not about qualification or rankings — it’s about proving identity. Whether Vitality continue their dominance or someone finally breaks through, this tournament will shape the narrative heading into the next stage of the season.
