The first match in a group often shows not only the teams’ current form, but also their ability to adapt as a series unfolds. This is especially true when one side takes the opening map, but then completely loses control over how the match develops.
Tournament context
IEM Rio 2026 is played in a group stage format with double-elimination Bo3. In the opening upper-bracket matches, a win moves a team into the upper semi-finals, while a loss immediately sends it to lower round 1, where the margin for error becomes much smaller.
In Group B, one of the key matches of the opening day was the series between Legacy and MOUZ. It determined who would continue through the upper side of the bracket and who would find themselves in the lower bracket after the very first matchday.

How the match unfolded — Legacy vs MOUZ
Series score: 2:1 in favor of MOUZ
- Dust2 (Legacy’s pick) — 13:9
Legacy opened the series successfully on their own choice. The Brazilian roster made better use of the early tempo, did not allow their opponent to fully impose its rhythm, and took an important first map, immediately forcing MOUZ to play from a chasing position. - Inferno (MOUZ’s pick) — 13:10
On the second map, MOUZ already looked much more structured. They stabilized their game, handled the key rounds better, and managed to level the series without allowing the deficit to become critical. - Mirage (decider) — 13:4
On the deciding map, MOUZ were already fully in control of the match. After the relatively close first two maps, the decider was played entirely on their terms, and Legacy failed to find a single workable scenario for getting back into the series.

Match summary
The series between Legacy and MOUZ turned into a classic story of a favorite starting poorly and then adapting hard. Legacy executed their own Dust2 pick well, but after that MOUZ gradually took control of the match, won Inferno, and completely shut their opponent down on Mirage.
The biggest difference appeared precisely in the European roster’s ability to rebuild its game during the series and not allow the poor start to grow into a tournament problem. As a result, MOUZ advance to the upper semi-finals, while Legacy are forced to move into lower round 1.
