Tedd on luchov: The Argentine Dagger

In a region that has often struggled to maintain a consistent presence at the top level of Counter-Strike, Luciano “luchov” Herrera has emerged as one of South America’s most exciting talents. The Argentine rifler, currently representing 9z, spent years honing his skills in the regional scene before finally earning international recognition. While his journey to the top was built on persistence and steady development, it is his current performance at the IEM Cologne Major 2026 that finally got him a spot on the radars of many.

What makes the 25-year-old Argentine rifler stand out does not have a lot of complexities attached, it’s not some kind of an evil genius approach to the game, and oftentimes doesn’t even need statistics to back it up, although they help build the case. It’s just his pure mechanical brilliance. He is flawless, one of these players who make you believe that Counter-Strike is an easy game to master. To put it plainly – he’s got an impeccable eye-test, and looks like that type of player who can turn games around and dominate the server in a spectacular fashion.

Early Career and Development

Like many South American players, luchov’s rise was far from glamorous. Before becoming one of Argentina’s most recognizable Counter-Strike players, he spent years competing in local and regional circuits, gradually building a reputation as a solid rifler. He represented organizations like Boca Juniors, Isurus, and BESTIA before eventually finding a long-term home with 9z.

During those early years, opportunities to compete against elite international opposition were limited. South American players have historically faced a difficult path compared to their European counterparts, often needing to stand out and prove themselves at local LAN events before getting the opportunity to take on international competition.

Even before his breakthrough, one aspect of his game consistently attracted attention: his mechanical skill. South America is a region known for producing capable rifles, so, at first, it was difficult to tell if he had something special, but his mechanics were undeniably good..

However, the lack of experience, and maybe lack of knowledge, didn’t allow him to back his potential with results, as he took part of four RMR events in the Americas region – IEM Rio 2022 Major RMR, BLAST.tv Paris Major RMR, PGL CS2 Major RMR & Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 RMR, in which he was nothing but a sub-par aggressive rifler on teams that were quite far from the level of the top dogs of the region.

So, one thing was obvious – he needed more experience, and more complete players around him in order to start shining. Dominating FPL and the domestic scene was simply not enough, and he needed to grow.

Joining 9z

Joining 9z was the most significant step in luchov’s career. The organization had already established itself as one of South America’s most recognizable Counter-Strike teams, regularly competing in international tournaments and providing talents like dgt & HUASOPEEK with the opportunity of showcasing their talent at bigger events.

Within the roster, luchov quickly became one of the team’s primary sources of firepower. His aggressive rifling style fit perfectly within 9z’s approach, allowing him to take initiative in crucial rounds while maintaining impressive consistency.

His first event with 9z was a slam dunk. A 1.21 rating showing with a 0.80 KPR at the BetBoom Circuit X Redemption Cup. An event which 9z didn’t win, and didn’t really beat the best of opposition to make the Semi-Finals, but it gave us an early glimpse of how the explosive entry would be used within the system of Maximiliano “max” Gonzalez.

Over the course of 2026, luchov established himself as the most consistent and highest rated player of 9z, averaging a 1.16 rating with a 0.75 KPR on LAN, and an impressive 1.16 rating over 25 maps against Top 10 opposition. All of that, while maintaining a 28.6% entry attempt rate on T-sides, and a 25.8% on CT-sides.

IEM Cologne Major – The breakthrough

Every professional player reaches a defining moment when years of hard work finally receive global recognition. For luchov, that moment arrived at IEM Cologne.

Heading into the tournament, 9z was viewed as a dangerous underdog, as their performance during PGL Astana – an event which saw luchov claim his first Tier 1 EVP award, after posting a 1.29 rating, and a 0.85 KPR, made a lot of eyes turn towards them. The team possesses raw talent, but few pundits expected this level of performance to carry on in Cologne, as the organization has a story of exceeding expectations at the occasional Tier 1 event, before going back to mediocrity, but this time, there seems to be something different.

The opening few games of Stage 2 were nothing special for luchov. While his CT-side performance looked fantastic, he struggled to bring in the necessary impact on the defensive side, as his only “above-average” map came on Inferno against TYLOO, where he posted a 21-10, 1.84 rating performance, hinting at what was to come.

The PARIVISION Game

Among the many highlights of Cologne, one series stood above the rest.

Facing a wounded PARIVISION, luchov produced a performance that instantly became one of the defining individual moments of the event for 9z. From the opening rounds, he appeared almost unstoppable. His aim was razor sharp, his positioning was flawless, and every duel seemed to favor him, especially on the T-side.

He kicked-off the series by posting a 13-5 scoreline after just seven rounds, helping 9z to take control of the game on Overpass almost instantly. The numbers alone were impressive, but they failed to fully capture how dominant he looked inside the server.

He was simply unstoppable, and extended his initial momentum on both Dust2 and Inferno, single-handedly demolishing PARIVISION, and ending the series with a 70-35 score, along with a remarkable 2.00 rating. That was probably the game that made a lot of people pay extra attention to the Argentine, who was not there to mess around, but to dominate.

A Bright Future Ahead

After the PARIVISION game, he seemed much more confident, and his performance in the shocking 2-0 win over Team Vitality, as well as the dramatic 1-2 loss to Team Spirit, saw him become the most discussed player on his team. An explosive aimer, who was able to simply delete players from the server, even when playing against some of the best teams in the world.

His flamboyant style, backed by the crisp mechanics, and decisive game, made him stand out. Luchov’s breakout at IEM Cologne represents more than just a successful tournament. It marked his arrival as a genuine international contender. For 9z, his emergence provides the team with a player capable of taking over matches through sheer firepower. For South American Counter-Strike, it offers another example of the region’s ability to develop world-class talent despite the challenges it faces, especially for non-Brazilian teams.

At a time when Counter-Strike 2 continues to evolve and new stars are constantly emerging, luchov has positioned himself among the most exciting players to watch. The combination of elite-level mechanics, confidence, and creativity makes him a player, who could definitely become an asset for a lot of struggling Tier 1 teams to explore acquiring.

The path from regional prospect to international star is rarely easy, but luchov has proven that he deserves a shot at the top. His performances at IEM Cologne & PGL Astana showcased everything that makes him special: incredible aim, relentless confidence, and the ability to deliver when the pressure is at its highest. Whether he decides to stay on 9z, or goes over to explore international play, one thing is for sure – Luciano “luchov” Herrera, “The Argentine Dagger” is only getting started.
