Early 2025, Perfect World officially confirmed the CS Asia Championships 2026 (CAC 2026) — a prestigious Asian CS2 tournament set to take place from May 18 to 24, 2026, in Shanghai, China. The event will mark the fifth edition of the CAC series, which has already established itself as one of the region’s premier competitions.
Recently, the organizers unveiled the full qualification format, participation criteria, and prize pool distribution, laying the foundation for what is expected to be one of the biggest esports events in Asia’s 2026 calendar.
Format: 16 teams, mixed invite and qualifier system
CAC 2026 will feature 16 teams competing in the main event through the following qualification paths:
- 12 direct invites based on the Global VRS (Valve Regional Standings) as per the February 2026 update.
- 2 Wildcard invites, granted directly to the Main Event without going through qualifiers.
- 2 slots through a Closed Asia Qualifier, which will include:
- 8 teams based on the Asia VRS,
- 2 teams from Open Online Qualifiers in Asia.
This format ensures a blend of elite international teams and rising regional contenders. Open qualifiers will be held online, while the Main Event will be a LAN tournament in Shanghai.

Controversial Wildcard invites: a potential rule breach?
According to the Tournament Operating Requirements (clause 3.4.1), Wildcard invites are only allowed to enter “at or before the first stage involving teams from the VRS.” However, in CAC 2026, there is a Closed Qualifier featuring VRS-invited teams that the Wildcard teams bypass entirely, entering directly into the Main Event.
This has raised concerns in the community and prompted the question: Was this format approved by Valve? As of publication, CAC 2026 does not appear on Valve’s list of sanctioned exceptions.
Prize pool: $1,000,000 split between players and organizations
A key highlight of CAC 2026 is its massive $1,000,000 prize pool, split between players ($400,000) and organizations ($600,000).

This structure provides meaningful rewards even for lower-ranked teams in the standings.
Participant requirements: compliance, transparency, and ethics
The tournament comes with strict eligibility and conduct rules, including:
- All branding (jerseys, logos, team names) must be pre-approved by Perfect World, to exclude sponsors in prohibited industries in China — such as gambling, blockchain, and skin/case gambling.
- Players or teams sanctioned by Valve or other organizers may be disqualified from participating.
- Any participants violating Chinese laws, including via social media, may face disqualification.
- Full compliance with the Major Supplemental Rulebook is mandatory.
These policies serve as both a legal and ethical filter, ensuring that all participants meet the required standards before stepping onto the Shanghai stage.
Tournament history: from CS:GO to CS2
The CS Asia Championships have a notable legacy:
- 2018, 2019 — the first two editions in CS:GO
- 2023 — return in CS2
- 2025 — upcoming edition set for October 14–19
- 2026 — the fifth and biggest installment to date
